Packing for the Trip
It’s time to embark on your long-awaited golf journey you’ve invested hundreds (if not thousands) into… being unprepared can put a damper on your mood, thus your golf game, so let’s properly prepare.
THIS is how to pack for your golf trip.
FIRST… reality.
The biggest variable facing you and the question of whether you are properly equipped or not for your upcoming trip is weather. Your packing list can change quite a bit depending on your destination and the seasonal weather that comes with it.
Step 1: know where you’re going and when you’re going.
Step 2: go to Google and type in “weather trends for (your destination)” and click on a few of the first links that pop up. History will show you how common rain happens and the average high and low temperatures throughout the day and night for the month/season that you’re going. Get a good glimpse of what you need to be prepared for! A few light bulbs should click that might sound something like “definitely bringing pants” or “where’s my rain jacket?” or “I should probably bring a few extra pairs of socks”. Take special note these epiphanies occurring in your brain.
NEXT…mindset and planning.
Peace of mind. Ease of travel. All bases covered. That’s the mission.
Boarding a plane? I bet checking your clubs (or shipping them) and having a duffel bag and maybe a backpack sounds ideal.
Jumping in the car? Don’t be the trunk hog (unless you’re driving solo 🤠 ).
Too much is annoying and a burden. Not enough puts you at amateur status. Let’s find the sweet spot…
THE LIST
The Golf Bag (in a hard case for airplane travel)
DEFINITELY pack these items inside your golf bag…
clubs, balls, tees, multiple gloves, golf umbrella, golf towels, divot fixer, club cleaning brush, club adjustment tools, ball markers, scorecard holder, golf ball alignment stencil, permanent marker, ball retriever tool (if you so desperately need)
OPTIONAL items to think about including inside your golf bag…
refillable water bottle, speaker and charging kit, sunglasses, sunscreen, bandages and/or first aid kit, finger tape, grip wipes, emergency socks, emergency shoelaces, headache medicine and/or hydration packets, hand sanitizer, handkerchiefs/snot rags, eye drops/contact solution, chewing gum and/or busy snacks like sunflower seeds (if allowed), nicotine products (if not having it will cause a breakdown)
PERHAPS you are able to pack these items inside your golf bag to save space…
golf shoes, rain jacket, golf cart cover (get caught in the rain and you’re instantly jealous)
The Personal Bag
DEFINITELY DON’T FORGET…
any of the above items that can’t fit in your golf bag
applicable toiletries such as: toothbrush, toothpaste, deoderant, small shampoo/conditioner (depending on your accommodations), retainers, electric and/or manual razor, glasses/contact lenses, nail clipper, shower cap (ladies)
clothing essentials such as: underwear, a hoodie, pajamas, sandals/flipflops, swimsuit, t-shirts, comfy pants, going out attire, and any other attire you deem necessary
COURSE SWAG - general rule of thumb is to never wear the same outfit twice and to ever have to do laundry on a golf trip if you can avoid it. Using the dryer after a wet round, understandable. However, if you run a full load, you didn’t pack right.
golf shoes - make sure you have a white pair, a spikeless pair, and a backup pair. That means 2, not 3.
golf polos - are you wearing 1 a day or 1 per round? You decide.
golf shorts or golf pants - remember the weather we talked about? Pants can be worn any day and in almost all weather (except maybe Arizona in July). Shorts, however, will make you miserable during any cold/wet/windy day.
belts - a critical component to golf attire. Bonus points for matching or standing out. Need fashion advice? Most golfers do. Recommended to seek help from your significant other.
socks - the wrong pair of socks can really mess it all up. Be smart yet comfortable.
1 pair for every round of golf you plan to play + 1 pair for each other day + atleast 1 backup pair
May your packing experience be as smooth as your swing 🏌🏽
